A Very Batik Day in Solo

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Today we drove 2 hours to the city formerly known as Solo, now called Surakarta, in Java.  First we visited the lovely Mangkunegaran Palace (still home to the royal family of Surakarta) before doing a bit of shopping at a huge indoor bazaar called Pasar Klewer.  Actually I would be more technically correct to say that Scott shopped at Pasar Klewer.  Here Scott gives us the thumbs-up sign as he adds several batik shirts to his collection.

I am taking it easy this evening and am scheduled for a return visit to the spa at 7:30.  We return to Bali tomorrow.  Tomorrow night will be spent in Ubud, at last!

Things to Remember

  • Nusi Goreng everywhere
  • Electricity: Bali uses the same plugs as France (two long round prongs)
  • Herbal Pounding at the Maya Ubud Resort
  • Tee Dot Mao = I don't want it!
